Obituary for William Arruda

William Arruda, 90, of Cove Road, Westerly, passed away at the Westerly Hospital, on Monday, April 3, 2017. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Mellow) Arruda who predeceased him in 1997. Born in East Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Manuel and Maria Arruda.

Bill was employed for many years in the maintenance department with the city of Pawtucket. He was an Army veteran of WWII who enjoyed watching boxing and Red Sox games. He is survived by two sons William “Ted” Arruda and his wife Amy, and Robert Arruda and his wife Stacey all of Westerly. He also leaves five grandchildren Scott (Tracy), Eric (Emily), Robbie (Amanda), Jessica and Haley as well as five great grandchildren Adam, Kyle, Meadow, Travis, Jayden and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Arruda was predeceased by his son Richard T. Arruda, seven brothers Manuel, John, Charles, Joseph, Louis, Alfred and Arthur, and five sisters Mary, Jean, Alice, Irene and Geraldine.

Visiting hours will be held in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly Thursday from 4-7 pm. Funeral services with military honors will be held in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery 301 South County Trail, Exeter on Friday at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are asked to gather at the Administration Building, no later than 10:15 am.
