Summers in Rhode Island

Our family started spending summers in Rhode Island in 1961. Our times there were some of our happiest times together as a family. What a gift these summers were, they shaped my life in so many positive ways.

From the song
Little Rhody

Long ago when I was young there was a magic time
Heading down old route one, leaving the city behind
Riding in our family car down New England roads
Going for the summertime to our Rhode Island home.

How we loved that salty pond over by the sea
And our cottage by the waters edge, by the willow tree
There we learned that life was good, we learned a love for the sea
I never lost that love for life and a taste for being free.

August came we road our bikes, 'twas berry picking time
Filled our baskets to the brim and mom would bake us pies
There we learned that life was good, we learned that land would provide
I never lost that love for life and the joy of being alive.

There was always joy to find down a country road
And it seemed the sun would shine everywhere we'd go
Life was so simple then, nothing much to do
Little Rhody in the summertime, we fell in love with you.
