Obituary for Margaret C. "Peggy" Long (Raynor)

Margaret (Peggy) Catherine Long lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Peggy was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1941. She and her husband raised their family in Windmill Farm in Armonk, NY. They have resided in Vero Beach, FL for 28 years, and spent summers in Watch Hill, RI. Peggy was an avid tennis player and enjoyed bridge. She belonged to the Watch Hill Yacht Club, the Misquamicut Club, and the Weekapaug Golf Club in Rhode Island. She belonged to the John’s Island Club and Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, FL. She was a devoted wife, mother of four children and grandmother of ten. She enjoyed traveling the world with her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her kindness, faith and unflappable good nature.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles E. Long along with their four children: Charles E. Long, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Pleasantville, NY; Christine M. Barry and her husband, Kevin of Vero Beach, FL; Brian R. Long and his wife, Lynn of Fort Collins, CO; and Margaret L. Macchetto and her husband Claudio of Chappaqua, NY. She will be remembered dearly by her ten grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Loretta R. Cornell of Viera FL and was predeceased by her younger sister, Dorothy Steidl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 11am at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church, Crandall Avenue, Westerly, RI. A private burial with immediate family only will be held in Indian River Shores, FL over the weekend. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be held in Indian River Shores later this year on a day to be determined.
