Obituary for Anthony J. Alfiero

Anthony J.  Alfiero
Anthony J. Alfiero, 89, of Cedar Crest Drive, Westerly, passed away at Royal Westerly Nursing Home on Thursday, November 16, 2017. He was the husband of the late Anne (Locrasto) Alfiero.

Born in Stonington, Connecticut, he was a son of the late Frank and Frances Alfiero.

Anthony was a member of the Stonington High School Hall of Fame and was captain of the baseball, basketball and football teams. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and later became a Mathematician for N.U.S.C. Anthony had also worked with his brother Joe for over 45 years as electricians. He was a longtime communicant of St. Pius X Church. His two biggest sporting loves was the New York Yankees and the UCONN women’s basketball team.

He will be dearly missed by his two children, John F. Alfiero and Nancy A. St. Germain and her husband David, all of Westerly; two brothers, Joseph Alfiero and Frank “Lefty” Alfiero, both also of Westerly and several nieces and nephews. Anthony was predeceased by one brother Charles Alfiero; and five sisters, Josephine Fiore, Rose Alfiero, Mary Valliere, Margaret Naccarato and Anne Mason.

A visiting hour will be held at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly.
