Obituary for David A. Smith

David A.  Smith
David A. Smith, 65, of Woodville Alton Road, Wood River Junction, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.

Born in Westerly, he was a son of the late Milton Smith and the late Winifred Smith Wright.

David worked as a Mechanic for Electric Boat in Groton for many years. He enjoyed going to yard sales and owned several antique tractors and restored a classic corvette. He loved his home and especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

He leaves two children, Paul D. Smith and Christine Burdett and husband Scott, all of Wood River Junction; five sisters, Sharon Smith Wheeler and Stacey Wright Minakin and her husband Cliff, Marcia Wright Sukont and husband Max, Diane Herman and husband Calvin and Linda Carlow; and four brothers, Stephen Smith, Carlton Wright and wife Elizabeth, Gordon Wright and wife Lynda, and Jeffrey Wright and wife Bonnie. David will also be greatly missed by three grandchildren, Jason Crandall, Ashley Crandall and Ryan Whitford; two aunts, Dorothy Woods and Irene Gledhill; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Bill Wheeler.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St.,, Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Celebration of David’s Life on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 2-5pm at Bradford Citizen’s Club, 124 Woody Hill Road, Bradford. Burial will be private.
