Assunta  Sposato (Capalbo)
Assunta (Capalbo) Sposato, 91, of Sunny Drive, Westerly, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Westerly Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gennaro Sposato, to whom she was married for 60 years.

Born in Acri, Cosenza, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Cosmo D. and Maria Capalbo.

Assunta was a devout communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.

Assunta’s life was devoted to Italian traditions, whether it be at the holidays, with delicious cooking with food from her vegetable garden, or playing the tambourine at cherished family get-togethers. She was an avid storyteller and her family would gather to hear her recount stories from her past. Above all, her true passion was her family. She was a kind, loving soul, who always greeted you with a hug and a kiss and truly made you feel loved.

She will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Rosa Pagliuso, of Cheshire, CT, and Maria Turano and her husband Giorgio of Westerly; her grandchildren, Lisa (Robert) Arciero, Tony (Teresa) Pagliuso, Venessa Turano and Marisa (Joseph)Olobri; and her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Elena, Avery, Trinity, Taelyn and Gianluca.

She is survived by two brothers, Pasquale and Salvatore Capalbo, and six sisters, Yolanda Pagliusi, Sandra Dodge, Rose Muntimuri, Carmela Anderson, Margaret Turner and Annunziata Morrone, who lives in Acri, Italy. She was predeceased by an infant son, Michele, three brothers, Frank, Anthony and Joseph Capalbo and her son-in law, Luigi Pagliuso.

Her children would like to extend sincere thanks to her family and friends for their love and support, as well as to the staff at the Westerly Hospital and the Westerly Health Center.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly.
