Obituary for Kathi Lundgren

Kathi Lundgren, 60, passed away peacefully at Pendleton Health & Rehab in Mystic, Connecticut, with her family by her side, on Friday, February 16 after battling early onset Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Kathi is survived by her parents, John R. and Carolyn K. Lundgren of Westerly, RI; her sister Karin Lundgren (Patrick McGlinchey) of Maine; beloved children, Adam (Jennifer) Blackman of Connecticut, Sarah (Travis) King of Vermont, and Kassidi Farrington and Kevin Farrington of Maine; and two granddaughters, Caroline and Claire Blackman. Kathi’s late grandparents were former Massachusetts State Senator Harold R. Lundgren and his wife Florence P. Lundgren, of Worcester, and Rhode Island dairy farmer George C. Kenyon and his wife Julia M. Kenyon of Elm Rock Farm in Hopkinton.

Kathi grew up in Holden, Massachusetts where she graduated from Wachusett Regional High School. She received an Associate Degree from Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Kathi lived most of her adult life in Jay, Maine, where she raised her children. She worked for many years at the University of Maine in Farmington. She loved animals, volunteering at a local animal shelter and raising rabbits and chickens in addition to having cats and dogs as pets. Kathi sewed beautiful quilts, knit and crocheted, made baskets and taught basket making, and was an avid gardener.

Throughout her illness, Kathi maintained her sense of humor and her love of life, determined to “make every day a good day.”

A memorial service will take place at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 15 East Beach Road, Charlestown, RI on Saturday, February 24, at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to help fund Alzheimer’s research (FMI visit alz.org or call 800-272-3900) or to your local animal shelter, in Kathi’s memory. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is handling the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
