Dear Nancy, Vicki, Lisa. Jules and Howard =
When asked "What will you miss most about Howard Morton Fry" ff is what came to mind. What I will miss most about this magnificent human being are his Silver tongue; his Golden heart; and his Brass balls. I never met a finer man--and never had a better friend--than this sui generis* American gentleman and scholar.

Condolence: from Reading, PA: Nancy, I send you my sincerest sympathies. Many memories flooded back as I recalled the two summers I spent with your family as a "mother's helper" caring for the girls. It is with great respect and fondness I remember Mr. Fry. He would say, "Lois, one day you are going to visit me in the White House!". He certainly got close in his lifetime. My time with your family was a time of "firsts" for me as a Mennonite Pastor's teenage daughter: my first plane ride to Cape Cod, that fancy wedding at a country club in Connecticut, my first taste of champagne compliments of Mr. Sam (!), the pretty blue linen dress with the big buttons you gave me to wear on a date (I had never worn a bought dress), giggling with your cleaning gal Elsa, and on and on! I send my love to you and the girls & families. With many fond memories of your family..........

Condolence: Mr. Fry was my boss when I was a young legal secretary at Stevens & Lee. I was just 19 years old at that time, but he made me love the law and he was a wonderful boss. I was too young at the time to realize how powerful and important he was. Now, at 70, I remember him as a gracious, intelligent and kind man from whom I learned so much. I am the Broker of a real estate company now (for 40 years) and the owner of our company is a lawyer. What I learned from Mr. Fry helped me to become who I am today. I will always be grateful, and I am very sorry for your loss.

Condolence: The lifelines of Howard “Tim” Fry and I have always been closely parallel. Both born in 1931 at The Reading Hospital, Berks County, PA. Both of our fathers owned and operated successful textile manufacturing companies. We went to Ivy League colleges in New England- Yale for Tim, Amherst (Little Ivy) for me. In the years following graduation, we became active in Republican politics (not normal for Ivy Leaguers!), first in PA and later in Washington where I served in Nixon’s Labor Dept. and, later still, Tim served in Reagan’s State Dep’t. In Berks County, we raised money, helped plan campaigns, and, occasionally, made a difference in that Democrat stronghold. After DC, Tim was my attorney in acquiring a Philadelphia company and for various other escapades. While we stayed in the Philadelphia area, the Frys moved from Wyomissing to the Florida Keys, then to Rhode Island. In these later days, we got together on occasion, but telephone chats, often for drinks, were more frequent.
Tim was a lifelong friend. I miss him.
George Guenther
