Obituary for Maria DeGiacomo (Luzzi)

Maria DeGiacomo (Luzzi)
Maria DeGiacomo, 85, beloved wife of 62 years to Antonio DeGiacomo, of Pierce St., Westerly, RI passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Acri, Province of Cosenza, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Federico and Immacolata Luzzi.

Maria was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. A loving mother and homemaker, Maria’s greatest passion was spending time with her family, most especially with her daughter, RoRo. A remarkable cook, she created all her meals from scratch. Most often the ingredients in the meals would be from her own garden, another one of her passions, with the most important ingredient always being the love she poured into each meal. Maria enjoyed hosting celebrations in her home, especially for the holidays. These celebrations allowed her to carry on the many traditions she brought with her from Italy.

In addition to her husband, she will be dearly missed by her children, Angelo DeGiacomo and wife Gina, Fred DeGiacomo and wife Cindy, Margaret Turano and husband Vincenzo, Joe DeGiacomo, Anna Powelzyk, and Rosemarie DeGiacomo.

Maria also leaves behind two sisters, Rosaria Magliari and Immacolata Ritacco; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Pasquale Luzzi, Giuseppe Luzzi, Angelo Luzzi, Salvatore Luzzi, and Giovanni Luzzi.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, from 4-7 pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 am, at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. There is no procession to the church from the funeral home. Entombment will take place at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
