David George Zaharie, Sr., 74, beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Caswell) Zaharie of Buckingham St., Pawcatuck, died June 30, 2009 in the Westerly Hospital.
Born in Chicago, Indiana, he was the son of the late George and Julia (Bockus) Zaharie.
Mr. Zaharie had been employed as a machinist for thirty years at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, retiring in the late 1990’s.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Westerly, he was a member of the International Association of Machinist’s Union and he enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving in addition to his wife he also leaves four sons David Zaharie, Jr. of Pawcatuck, Anthony Zaharie of Exeter, Michael Zaharie of Groton and Domonic Zaharie of Pawcatuck; three daughters Theresa Plantz of Bonners Ferry, ID, Kathleen Cidale and Marie Muller both of Pawcatuck; two sisters Margaret Kushnack and Mary Drang both of IN; 23 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 7p.m. in the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Friday at 10a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly, RI. There is no procession from the funeral home to the church.
Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck, CT.
