Obituary for Michael W. Haggerty

Michael W.  Haggerty
Michael W. Haggerty, of Norwich, CT, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the age of 36.

Born in Brockton, Mass., he was the beloved son of Carole Haggerty and Thomas DiPietro of Westerly, Kevin Haggerty also of Westerly and Michael and Shawn McNair of California.

A graduate of Westerly High School Class of ’00, he was a standout athlete achieving Division honors in football and basketball. He was the MVP of the WCCU Holiday Basketball Tournament in 1999. He attended Fitchburg State College and also played football there. Michael coached Little League and Youth Basketball in Jewett City. He worked as a bartender for Mohegan Sun Casino and was known for his infectious smile and contagious laugh. Michael will be dearly remembered as an amazing father, son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend.

In addition to his parents, he leaves his two children, Caden Michael and Mia Marie, both of Norwich; his sister and best friend Kathryn Thornley of Westerly and two nieces Sienna and Kaya; the love of his life Carri Duddie; as well as two additional sisters, Jennifer and Megan McNair and three brothers, John, James and Stephen McNair, all of California. Michael is also survived by his maternal grandmother Margaret Puhlick of Westerly; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Helen Haggerty of Westerly; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Alben Puhlick, Sr.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at St. Mary’s Church, 95 Main St., Stonington on Friday at 10am. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to benefit Michael’s children, payable to: Carole Haggerty, c/o PO Box 83, Westerly, RI 02891.
