George Guenther

The lifelines of Howard “Tim” Fry and I have always been closely parallel. Both born in 1931 at The Reading Hospital, Berks County, PA. Both of our fathers owned and operated successful textile manufacturing companies. We went to Ivy League colleges in New England- Yale for Tim, Amherst (Little Ivy) for me. In the years following graduation, we became active in Republican politics (not normal for Ivy Leaguers!), first in PA and later in Washington where I served in Nixon’s Labor Dept. and, later still, Tim served in Reagan’s State Dep’t. In Berks County, we raised money, helped plan campaigns, and, occasionally, made a difference in that Democrat stronghold. After DC, Tim was my attorney in acquiring a Philadelphia company and for various other escapades. While we stayed in the Philadelphia area, the Frys moved from Wyomissing to the Florida Keys, then to Rhode Island. In these later days, we got together on occasion, but telephone chats, often for drinks, were more frequent. Tim was a lifelong friend. I miss him. George Guenther
