Alice Levcowich, 102, of Westerly, died Saturday morning at the Royal Nursing Home.
Alice was the daughter of the late Vincent and Elizabeth Levcowich.
She graduated from Westerly High School in 1933. She received nursing training in Boston, and received her LPN in 1938, She was employed by Boston City Hospital from 1938 to 1952 as a Private Duty Nurse, specializing in the Burn Unit and ICU. She cared for victims of the Coconut Grove Fire in 1942, assisting Doctors with new methods of skin grafts and care. She returned to Westerly in 1952 to care for her family after her mother’s death. She was the Nurse and Office Manager for Dr. Chimento, of Westerly, from 1960 to her retirement in 1989.
She was renowned in the area for her treatment of foot ailments and her quick general diagnoses.
Alice was predeceased by her sister Tatiana; and her brothers, Michael, Founder of Pleasant Acres Florist & Greenhouses, and Peter. She is survived by a sister-in-law Mary Toscano Levcowich; nieces and nephews, Lisa Daly, Mitchel & Kelly Levcowich, Palmalee & David Trebisacci, Kurt Levcowich, Elizabeth & Brian Bergel and Vincent & Mary Levcowich; eight great nieces and great nephews; and one great-great nephew.
Visiting Hours are omitted. A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 5th at 12 Noon at River Bend Cemetery, 117 Beach Street, Westerly.
