Joan M. (Kenyon) Carey, 83, of Hydrangea Drive, Westerly, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 8, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife for 60 years of John T. "Tippy" Carey, Sr.

Born in Pawcatuck, CT, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Rita (Shackner) Kenyon.

Joan attended St. Michael the Archangel School and graduated from Stonington High School. Joan work for many years as a Secretary at Bostitch Manufacturing Company. Joan was a devoted homemaker. She was a devout communicant of St. Pius X Church and a member of the Mothers' Guild at St. Pius X School. Joan shared a special bond of true friendship with all her life-long friends within "The Sewing Club"

She will be dearly missed by her husband John; her eight children, Julie (Scott) Latham, Sheila (Joseph) Kuzmic, Joan (Eric) Rundman, Jena (Tom) McGuire, John Jr. (Debra) Carey, Karla (Roger) DeSarro, Thea (Andrew) Jenkins and Christopher Carey. Mrs. Carey is also survived by two siblings, Douglas (Gail) Kenyon of Hartford and Judith (Bob) Thibdeau of Pawcatuck, CT., twenty-four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three siblings, David Kenyon, Frances Moran and Barbara Grills.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly on Wednesday at 10am. Interment will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation in Joan's memory.
