Obituary for Donald J. "Duck" Gingerella

Donald J. “Duck” Gingerella, age 85, of Elm St., Westerly, formerly of Schilke Dr., went home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, November 12, 2018.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 60 years, Frances Christophersen Gingerella; his daughter, Donna Gingerella and husband Michael Munger of Raleigh, NC; son, Donald S. Gingerella of Westerly; daughter, Christine Daoularis and her husband Alex Daoularis of York, PA; and grandchildren, Dionisi Daoularis of Philadelphia, PA; Nikolaos Daoularis of York, PA; Kevin Munger of Philadelphia, PA; and Brian Munger of Durham, NC. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Gingerella of Pawcatuck, CT, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Gingerella and brothers John Gingerella, Jr. and Sylvester Gingerella.

Don was an outstanding athlete in several sports at Westerly High School and a stellar member of the basketball team that was the 1950-1951 State Champions, winning all 21 games played. He was inducted into the WHS Sports Hall of Fame on April 1, 2000. After graduation, he served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Don worked as a supervisor with Electric Boat until his retirement. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church; a life member of the Westerly BPOE Lodge #678, the Calabrese Society and the Bocce Club; and a member of the North End Social Club. “Duck” will be fondly remembered by many as always having a toothpick in his mouth.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 3-5pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am on Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
