Obituary for Bertram J. Peltier Jr.

Bertram J. Peltier, Jr., 76, beloved husband for 56 years of Judith (McGough) Peltier, of Westerly, RI passed away after a courageous battle against Multiple System Atrophy at Westerly Hospital on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Nora “Chris” and Bertram J. Peltier, Sr.

Bert served the City of Hartford as a police officer for 22 years before retiring. He then served the State of CT and the Town of Westerly as a police officer and the Rhode Island School of Design as a Public Safety Officer and EMT. Bert was an avid runner and classic car enthusiast, loved boating and splitting his time between Westerly and Bonita Springs, FL. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a communicant of St. Clare Church.

In addition to his loving wife, he will be dearly missed by his children, Michael A. Peltier and his wife Amy Seirer of San Francisco, CA and Karin E. Banks and her husband Donald of Ellington, CT; and his three granddaughters, Alexandrea Banks, Noelle and Gabrielle Peltier. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert F. Peltier and his wife Joanne of Wethersfield, CT and John T. Peltier and his wife Maria of Hartford, CT, and his sister-in-law, Anna Peltier of Enfield, CT; Bertram was predeceased by a brother Joseph Peltier. He is also survived to mourn his loss by his nephews and nieces, friends and colleagues. He leaves behind a legacy of a lifetime filled with acts of kindness and generosity.

Bert’s family would like to thank his home caregivers, Beatrice & Kim, as well as his caregivers from Bayada Home Health, especially Michelle. In addition they would like to thank Dr. Bartel Crisafi, the doctors and staff at Westerly Hospital and Westerly Ambulance Corps for their care and compassion.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 30 from 5-8 pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Saturday, Dec. 1 at St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Avenue, Westerly.
