Obituary for Betty Joan Stearns (Pirtle)
Betty Joan Stearns passed away on New Year’s Day, 2019.
Born in 1926 in Chicago to Bertha and Joseph Pirtle she earned a degree in education at the University of Wisconsin. She attended a summer graduate program in England where she met G. Wendell Stearns from NH whom she married in 1949. They lived in Boston and Lenox, Mass. where they raised 6 children. In 1971 they moved to Israel and developed a great love for the country. They spent their later years nearer family in Pawcatuck, CT.
Betty taught art and third grade for several years but devoted most of her life to raising her family, active participation in their church and supporting her husband in following God’s plan for their lives.
Betty is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years and her 2nd son, Timothy. She leaves behind her sons, Daniel and Peter, daughters, Sarah, Tamar and Hope, their spouses, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Her loving smile and genuine interest in others will be remembered by all who met her.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at Faith Bible Chapel, Westerly on January 12 at 2:00p.m. Burial will be private.
