Obituary for Marie F. Scola (Holden)

Marie F. (Holden) Scola, 94, of Atlantic Avenue, Westerly, RI, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on January 19, 2019.

Born in Supply, NC, she was the loving wife of the late William G. Scola and daughter of the late George W. and Florence Holden.

Marie was the Treasurer for Angelo Scola & Company, Inc. for over 40 years and an active member of St. Clare Church, the Beato Angelo Society, and the Westerly Yacht Club.

Her warm smile and zeal for life touched the lives of everyone around her, from her Southern roots in Supply, NC all the way to the coastline of Rhode Island. She will be remembered for her strength and gracious southern hospitality, for treating others the way she wanted to be treated, for making anyone and everyone feel recognized & important, and for the unconditional love she had for her faith, her friends, but most importantly, her family.

She is survived by her four children, Nancy, Angelo, Jo-Ann & Fay; sister Margaret; sister-in-law, Etheline; son-in-law Richard; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Ave., Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will be private. Donations may be made in her memory to Pace Adult Day Care Center – a place that made every day she spent there, very special.
