Obituary for William L. Frates
William L. Frates, 78, of Wren Street, Pawcatuck, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Thursday, January 24, 2019. He was the husband of 53 years to the late Ann (Dumaine) Frates.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., he was the son of the late Albert E. and Margaret Frates
William was employed in Masonry Sales for United Builders Supply for many years. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church where he served as one of the first Eucharistic Ministers. Later, Bill and his wife Ann became longtime RCIA sponsors at St. Michael Church. He was also a member of the Westerly Lodge of Elks and a US Army Veteran.
He is survived by his two children, Crystal F. Wilcox and her husband Robert and James M. Frates and wife Patricia; four grandchildren, William and Melia Wilcox and Shelby and Seth Frates; two brothers, John M. and Peter F. Frates, both of Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Caitlyn Frates; and his brother Albert E. Frates, Jr.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5p.m. at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary’s Church, 95 Main St., Stonington on Monday at 1p.m. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will be private.
