Douglas R. Rose, 75, of Ledyard, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Westerly, RI in 1943 to Frank and Marion Rose. He grew up in Pawcatuck, CT and attended Stonington High School. After graduating, he began a long and successful career at Electric Boat in Groton. He began his job as a pipe fitter and retired as a senior planning specialist in 1999.
He married his wife Sandra Fedus in April of 1962 after the couple met on a blind date. They enjoyed almost 57 years of marriage and set a beautiful example of enduring love and friendship to all who knew them. She survives him.
Douglas was a man of quiet integrity who cared for his family with honor and dignity. He was an outdoors man who enjoyed golfing and boating. He grew up on the water and spent his days fishing, clamming and crabbing. Fond memories of summer days spent boating to Sandy Point with his girls will always be cherished. He was a wonderful cook and was family famous for his homemade clam fritters and chowder.
Upon retiring, Doug spent his days relaxing with friends at the Westerly Yacht Club - where he was a lifetime member. At the club, Douglas enjoyed being a member of the shuffleboard team.
Besides his wife Sandra, he is survived by his three daughters: Deborah of Westerly, RI, Heidi and her husband John of Waterford, CT, and Kimberly and her husband Patrick of Waterford, CT. He also leaves behind six loving grandchildren: Kayla {Mike}, Ryan, Hannah, Zachary {Alix}, Jordyn, and Cole.
