Susie A. (Sposato) Greene, 91, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2019 at The Westerly Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gordon A. Greene (1983).
Susie was the ninth of ten children of Santo and Christina Sposato of Westerly. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Josefina Terranova, Carlo, Domenica “Minnie” Ballato, Julia Parise, Angelina, Marianna Santaniello, John, and Irene Gaccione. Susie was also predeceased by her daughters, Mary (1957) and Amanda (1975) and several nieces and a nephew. Susie is survived by her sister Felicia Scialabba; sons, Stephen (Betty-Jo Cugini) and Geoffrey; her five grandchildren, Hillary (Riley Nolan), Rachel (Michael Banks), Matthew, James and Stephen; and great-granddaughter Abigail Banks.
Susie was a hard worker her whole life. After completing the ninth grade she began work with Ernie’s Food Truck and the Moore Company. Susie later worked at the American Velvet, and then for 23 years cooked for the priests at the Immaculate Conception Church. She was known for her grace, quiet disposition, steely strength, and soft smile. She was a good listener, always supportive, and open-minded. Susie encountered many adversities throughout her life but drew upon her family and her deep Catholic faith to overcome them. She treasured time with her children, grandchildren, and baby Abigail. She loved playing cards, bingo, knitting, dancing, and family dinners.
Susie’s family wishes to extend special thanks to her friends at Merchants Village and the Elms Carriage House, Tracey Martino, Deidre Miguel, and staff at The Westerly Hospital, especially Kerin DaCruz, Drs. Jaccarino and Jalbert, and April Higgins. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to The Westerly Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 17 from 2-4 PM at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce Street, Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, February, 18 at St Pius X Church, 44 Elm Street, Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church.
