Obituary for Mary Lou Canty (Dipollino)

Mary Lou (Dipollino) Canty, 73, of 26 Saratoga Avenue, Westerly, passed away at the Westerly Health Center on Saturday, Saturday April 13, 2019. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Canty.

Born in Westerly, she was the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Angelina Dipollino.

Mary Lou worked as a Finance Clerk for The Westerly Hospital for years until her retirement in 2016 and was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. In the late 70’s, she founded the WYBL Cheerleaders and was a co-founder of the RI Coaches Association. Mary Lou coached numerous championship cheering teams throughout her coaching career and won several championships coaching for Westerly Pee Wee Football Cheerleaders.

She leaves her two children, Mark A. Canty and partner Cindy Maine of Vancouver, WA and Michelle A. Canty of Westerly. Mrs. Canty is also survived five siblings, Charles, Michael and Josephine Weisenburger, all of Westerly, John of Texas and Jackie Poole of Bradford; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly on Wednesday at 10:00am. Burial will be private.
