In the name of God The Most Beneficent. The Most Merciful.

Our heavy hearts rejoice and fill over with gratitude toward The Lord that Luther R. Dickerson of North Stonington passed away beautifully, surrounded by family and friends at his home on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the age of 91.

He was born in Ladson, SC and joined the US Navy at the early age of 17. While in the Navy he proudly fought in three wars: WWII, Korea and Vietnam. After giving his country 37 years of Surface and Submarine service he transferred his service to the State of Connecticut, where he assumed the role of Security Director for the University of Connecticut. He would remain there for over 10 years.

Even after two retirements he always dedicated his long life to service; he volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels, transporting seniors and delivering meals to their homes. He was an active member of the North Stonington Rotary Club, the Masons, the New London Elks Lodge, the Lions Club, and to his local church – North Stonington Baptist Church.

He is survived by his three children, Ray Dickerson of Oakland, CA, Donald Dickerson of San Pablo, CA and Robin Dickerson of North Highland, CA; nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Luther was predeceased by his daughter Diane Jones.

The family of Luther Dickerson cordially invite all to share in his loving memory and thank God for the long and fruitful life of our beloved Chief, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle and Friend – Luther Dickerson. Visiting hours are omitted. The Funeral Service with Full Military Honors will be conducted at 12 noon on Monday, February 10th at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Burial will be private. For online condolences please visit
