Obituary for George S. Angell

George S. Angell, beloved life partner of Donna Jean, of Pleasant St., Westerly, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the age of 69.

Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Raymond F. and Marion B. Angell, formerly of North Kingstown. George was also predeceased by his sister Linda H. Angell, and his brother Richard P. Angell.

He is survived by his brother Raymond F. Angell, Jr. of N. Kingstown, RI; his son Mark Angell of Voluntown, CT; his adopted son Den P. Angell of Thailand and Den’s mother Gale of N. Kingstown; his two step-daughters, Deborah Arnold and her husband Mike of Westerly and Dianna Matteson and her husband Rob of N. Smithfield. Besides leaving ten grandchildren, George also leaves several nieces and nephews.

George often reminisced, telling stories about growing up fishing, camping and being outdoors with his buddies. Until six months ago, he was still an avid fisherman who could often be found on local ponds watching the sun come up. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

George worked many jobs during his lifetime. He worked digging clams with his son and he delivered seafood out of Pt. Judith, working on the docks and boats. Most recently, he was a courier for The Westerly Hospital and past president of their Local Union 5075. George was an outstanding employee and was respected by all until his retirement in 2018.

George’s family always turned to him for advice and refuge, loved his cooking and he will be sadly missed.

Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a Celebration of George’s Life will be held at a future date to be announced. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in care of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
