Obituary for John F. Monahan
John F. Monahan, beloved husband for 59 years of Barbara A. (Bishop) Monahan, of Setting Sun Drive, Westerly, passed away at his home on Monday, December 28, 2020.
Born in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of the late Frank and Alice Monahan.
John was a United States Marine Corps veteran who served during the Korean War. He then worked in sales at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation for 30 years. John was a communicant of St. Clare Church where he served as a longtime Eucharistic Minister. He was a proud member of the Westerly Lions Club, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, and the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, where he helped to prepare fish and chips every year during Lent.
In addition to his loving wife Barbara, he leaves two children, Tom Monahan of Las Vegas, NV and Lynn Monahan of Westerly; three grandchildren, Victoria, Danny and Jordan; one great-grandchild, Emerlyn; and many beloved nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by four siblings.
Due to the COVID pandemic, the burial will be private. A memorial mass will be held at a yet-to-be determined date this summer.
