Obituary for Edward J. Morenzoni Jr.

Edward J. Morenzoni, Jr., 89, of John Street, Westerly, passed away at home with family by his side on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. He was the beloved husband for nearly 60 years to his high school sweetheart, Barbara A. (Sposato) Morenzoni, who predeceased him on November 22, 2014.

A lifelong resident of Westerly, Edward was a son of the late Edward, Sr. and Carrie Morenzoni.

At the age of 19, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served honorably for four years during the Korean War. He retired in 1992 as Superintendent after many years with Electric Boat and was a devoted communicant of St. Pius X Church. Edward was a passionate New England sports fan and was proud to be the last surviving member of the Quarry Hill Gang. He was also the longest continuous member of the Winnapaug Country Club, having golfed there for 72 years.
Edward was a gentleman’s gentleman and a proud and loving family man.

He will be dearly missed by his six children, Kim James and her husband Dan of Ashaway, Robin Peck of Westerly, Edward J. Morenzoni, III and wife Tina of Clearwater, FL, Scott Morenzoni and his wife Melissa of Hermitage, TN, Cindy Alfiero of Port St. Lucie, FL and Kerri Hunt and her husband William of Westerly. Edward also leaves behind two siblings, Richard Morenzoni and wife Doris of Sebring, FL and Susan Routhier of Westerly; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law David Alfiero and brother-in-law Claude Routhier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2pm on Friday, Feb. 12, at St. Pius X Church, 45 Elm St., Westerly. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, seating capacity limits will be in place. Please wear a mask and adhere to social distancing rules. Burial with Full Military Honors will be private. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in care of the arrangements.
