Obituary for David A. Neff

David Austin Neff, 74, of Mystic, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home on March 9, 2021.

David was born in New London to the late Herman and Eleanor Neff. He graduated from Waterford High School, was stationed in Thailand for the US Army, then was a sheet metal apprentice and worked for sheet metal Local Union #40 until retiring at the young age of 58. After retirement, he was instrumental in caring for his first grandchild, Michael. Some would say this was the reason for his early retirement!

David was well-known for being a fun, kind, and generous person, and having a fierce love for this family. He was always up for traveling, sitting on the beach, attending a parade, shuttling grandkids to appointments, providing bottomless glasses of wine, and fixing just about anything. All who knew him loved him. He will be sorely missed.

David is survived by Rose Neff, his loving wife of almost 52 years, of Mystic, his son David and wife Caryn Neff of West Hartford, his daughter Jill Nolan of Mystic, and his former son-in-law Michael Nolan of Mystic.

He is survived by five grandchildren: Michael, Jack, and Noah Neff of West Hartford, and Sarah, and William Nolan of Mystic. He is also survived by seven siblings: Lois Jensen, Brian Neff, Judy Dirkhising, Susan Bergman, Paul Neff, Penny Bratovich, and James Neff.

There will be a celebration of his life in the future, when it is appropriate. Until then, sit outside at night and listen for the peep frogs that are soon to come, and remember the good times with David. He certainly gave us all fond and loving memories.

Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, Westerly is in care of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
