North Stonington- Rosalind (Murray) Lewis, 88, passed peacefully at home at the Beriah Lewis Farm on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2021, most fitting for her strong Irish heritage. She was the wife of the late David Babcock Lewis. Born in Ashaway, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anne Murray. Rosalind was the co- owner of the Beriah Lewis Farm in North Stonington, a life time member of the North Stonington Grange, and a communicant of both Our Lady of Victory Church in Ashaway and St. Michael the Archangel Church in Pawcatuck.

Roz graduated from Westerly High School in 1950 and Central Connecticut Teachers’ College in 1954. She taught in both West Hartford and Stonington prior to dedicating her time and energy to being a wife and mother. She married Dave Lewis in 1956 and began a long running partnership with the love of her life. She devoted her life to her family and her faith. In later years, she loved traveling the world with her friends.

Rosalind leaves behind her 4 children, Harry B. “Ted” Lewis (Dawn), Ledyard E. Lewis (Emily) all of North Stonington, Almyra L. Gaylord (Gary) of Rensselaer Falls, NY and Kathleen L. Smith (Jim) of Lebanon, CT; and a daughter-in-law Janet McCaw Lewis. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Rosalind was predeceased by her son, David “Hummer” Lewis in 2005, brother Dr. Edward Murray and sister Aileen Vandendries.

Visiting hours are omitted. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at St. Michael’s Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck, on Tuesday, March 23 at 11 am. Burial will follow at the Lewis Family Cemetery in North Stonington. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in care of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit

Our sincere Sympathy goes out to all the Lewis families. Such a loss of a dear loved one. The last time I saw Rosalind was at Staples in Norwich with her daughter, quite a while ago. As Always Rosalind was so caring to all whom she met throughout the years. My late husband (Henry Baker Jr.) and family had many memories of all at the farm from way back.
May each of you have cherished memories to keep in your hearts forever. Plus the Love she gave to each of you. She is at peace now and reunited with your dad and Hummer.
