Obituary for Augustine J. "Gus" Lawrence

Augustine J. “Gus” Lawrence, 89, of Pawcatuck, passed away peacefully, with his children at his side, at The Westerly Hospital on Sunday, December 19, 2021. He was the husband of the late Ann (Murphy) Lawrence.

Born in Stonington, CT, he was the son of the late Augustine C. and Avis S. Lawrence.

Gus was employed as a Methods Planner at Harris Intertype for almost 30 years until his retirement. He was also employed by Electric Boat where he worked as an assembler.
He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War where he served on the USS Baltimore and later was stationed on the USS Fulton. He was a former member of the Harley P. Chase Post 1265 and the American Veterans, as well as the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society. He proudly served his community as a firefighter, first with The Neptunes of the Stonington Fire Dept. and then with the Pawcatuck Fire Dept.

He is survived by his two children, Patrick C. Lawrence and wife Beth of Westerly and Lynne S. Lawrence and husband Kurt Cramer of Pawcatuck; two grandsons, Kevin Lawrence of Westerly and Clint Cramer of Pawcatuck; and his sister Marie Sollenberger of N. Stonington. Gus was predeceased by his sisters, Geraldine Jarrard and Patricia Stanfield; and his brother John Lawrence.

Visiting hours are omitted. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10am on Thursday at St. Michael’s Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck. There is no procession to church from the funeral home.
