Obituary for Dorothy L. Manfredi (Sutton)

Dorothy Manfredi, 91, of Westerly passed away on December 28th, 2021. Dorothy was born and raised on a family farm in Altoona PA to Maude and Harvey Sutton, one of 15 siblings. She moved to San Bernardino, California where she met her future husband, Frank, settling in Frank’s hometown of Westerly in 1956. She spoke lovingly and often of her family from Altoona her whole life.

Dottie worked incredibly hard to provide for her family, operating her own restaurant in Westerly (the B&F Snack Bar); then later working at the renowned China Village in downtown Westerly for over 25 years, and later at Lucky House all while maintaining a household and often putting up hundreds of bottles of canned goods. Born to an Irish-English family in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, she also came to master many Calabrese and Neapolitan specialties, always sharing with family and friends.

She was devoted to her children and grandchildren to a fault, finding immense pleasure in their company. She never turned down an opportunity to babysit or spend time with her grandchildren, and enjoyed spoiling each of them with homemade treats. (Getting her to return the grandchildren was the only challenge!)

Dorothy leaves behind three sons, Frank (Dea) & Barry (Karen) all of Westerly; and Christopher (Jennifer) of Stonington; 8 grandchildren, Stacey Trombino, Barry C. Manfredi, Teresa Manfredi, Steven Manfredi, Maeve Manfredi, Cassandra Manfredi, Matthew Manfredi, Beatrice Manfredi; and 7 great-grandchildren, Claire, Veronica, Mia, Olivia, Emma, David, Julian. She also leaves behind her sisters, Margie Cuomo & Rita Funicelli; and many nephews & nieces.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Frank S. Manfredi; two infant brothers, Bobby and John; her brothers, Alvin, Leonard, Blair, Fred, Leroy, William and Donald; and her sisters, Ellen, Marie and Ollie.

Dorothy’s family would like to express their gratitude for the hard work and devotion demonstrated by the entire staff of the Westerly Health Center these past years. You treated her with good humor and kindness, which she needed more than anything. She adored the games and jokes you shared with her.
