Obituary for Robert J. Longo

Robert J. Longo, 98, of Robinson Street, Pawcatuck, died on Saturday, January 15, 2022.
It is with heavy hearts that his family report the passing of Bob. Some called him “Smiley” but his family call him “Gramps”.

Bob was the son of the late Antonio and Francis Longo.

He was predeceased by his wife Dorothea Perkins Kennedy Longo; two brothers, Joseph and
Frank; sisters, Ida, Francis and Carmela.
Robert leaves behind a daughter Carol Kennedy Heller, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and God children.
Gramps was a wonderful man who never hesitated to tell his family he loved them. (We loved you too Gramps).

Bob was a World War II veteran. He was shot down over Germany while flying a bombing mission and became a prisoner of war. He was proud of his service to his country.

Bob worked as a machinist at General Dynamics for more than forty years. He was a member of several social clubs and was recognized as Elk of the Year.

Special thanks to Gilbert and Carrie Napier, the “visiting angels” aids, and Hospice Caregivers for making his final days peaceful.

Due to the pandemic, there will be no visiting hours. A Graveside Funeral Service will take place at 11am on Thursday at St. Michael Cemetery, Stillman Avenue Extension, Pawcatuck, CT. Committal service will be conducted with Full Military Honors. A Celebration of Life will be planned later this year. You’ll be missed Gramps, but never forgotten!
Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in care of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
