Obituary for Emilio L. "Hummie" Murano

Emilio L. “Hummie” Murano, 99, of Valley Drive, Westerly, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Friday, March 18, 2022. He was the loving husband to the late Theresa (Gaccione) Murano.

Born in Westerly, he was son of the late Luigi and Mary Murano. Hummie was predeceased by his seven siblings, Angelo Murano, Phil Murano, Theresa Murano, Sue Chiaradio, Minnie Boeniger, Rose Cidale, and Ann Murano.

Hummie proudly served in the US Army during WWII in the Infantry Regiment, earning several commendations.
He was a real estate broker and owner of E.L. Murano Real Estate. He was also a founding member of the Frank Olean Center, and was instrumental in the founding and funding of several area group homes.
Hummie was a member of the Knights of Columbus #21, the Calabrese Society, the Westerly Lodge of Elks BPOE #678, and the VFW Amancio-Falcone-Gaccione Post # 8955.

He leaves behind his two children, Elizabeth “Betty” A. Gueltzow and her husband James of Westerly and Louis R. Murano of Port Charlotte, FL. He was predeceased by his daughter Marie Rae Murano. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly at 12 noon on Wednesday. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in care of the arrangements.
