Obituary for Maryanne Aluzzo (McGrady)

Maryanne McGrady Aluzzo, of Westerly Rhode Island passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was surrounded by her family.

Maryanne was known be one of the most generous and kind people you will ever meet. Her death leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family and her many friends.

Maryanne was born on July 13, 1978 to Michael and Trudy McGrady. She grew up in rural upstate New York. Her favorite pastimes as a child were hiking, canoeing on the Delaware River, and fishing with her dad. From the age of 10 she spent summer nights sleeping in a tent pitched outside her family’s home overlooking the Delaware River. She loved all animals and helped care for goats and chickens on a nearby farm.

Maryanne is survived by her husband Jamie Aluzzo, her beautiful daughters Zoe Leblanc and Bella Aluzzo, her stepdaughter Aphten and husband Raymond, and their children Coen and Leighton Colechia, as well as her parents Michael and Trudy McGrady, sisters Alissa Smith, Cassie McGrady and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maryanne and Jamie owned and operated several businesses together based in Westerly, RI, including the award-winning Best of Rhode Island Uptown Salon and Spa. Maryanne was known as an employer that brought out the best in her many colleagues. In their words, she was kind, humble and generous. She accepted challenges herself personally and challenged her employees to be their best selves. Since her passing, the private stories of how she helped and gave to those in need have begun to be shared. She donated her time as well as resources and helped so many anonymously.

In addition to operating her businesses, Maryanne worked as a dental hygienist in the practice of Dr. Robert Carnevale from 2007-2019 after graduating from the University of New Haven in 2007.

Maryanne was an avid reader and loved working on personal self-improvement goals. Always up for a challenge, whether at the gym or in her businesses, she pushed past her limitations and encouraged others to do the same. The women she mentored over the years were deeply impacted by her example and levelheaded advice and encouragement. She inspired others to leadership roles as well as mentoring some into opening their own businesses. She was never afraid to admit a mistake and learn from it. Maryanne’s contagious belly laugh was enjoyed by her friends and family alike and it was a hallmark of her lively personality.

In the summer months Maryanne could be found on their boat with her family, paddle boarding on the bay by her home, or walking on the beach. She loved nature, animals, and all things outdoors. She taught both her daughters to love and appreciate these things as well.

Maryanne was an active member of the Westerly Rhode Island Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved studying the Bible and had a passion for sharing this message with others.

Rest in Peace Maryanne. You will never be forgotten but forever remembered and missed by all who knew you.
