Obituary for Nancy R. Italiano (Giuntoli)

Nancy Italiano passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the age of 90 in West Hartford, Connecticut. She was surrounded by her loving family during her last days.

Nancy was born Nancy Ruth Giuntol in Berwyn, Illinois to parents Joseph and Marie Giuntoli. She spent her early childhood years in Cicero, Illinois. The only child of prohibition-era tavern owners, she had many colorful stories of her time in Cicero and remained close with her Chicago extended family throughout her life. She later moved with her family to Las Vegas and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1950.

After graduating from high school, Nancy started her first job as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone Company of Nevada. She loved her work and was the youngest person ever promoted to Supervisor by Bell at the time. Soon after, Nancy met the love of her life Joseph Italiano, Jr. who was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. After marrying in Las Vegas, Nancy and Joe drove across the country to start their life, going on to raise five children in Joe’s hometown of Pawcatuck, CT. Nancy embraced her new extended family and was an active member of St. Michael’s Church and community during her 40 plus years there. She also worked as an administrative assistant for several years at the former Hanley & Williams Lumber Company in Westerly, RI where she made many lifelong friends. Nancy was an avid reader who also loved to travel with her husband Joe on many overseas trips and continued to travel with friends from Vernon and South Windsor, CT where she spent her later years.

Nancy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joe. She is survived by her five children and their families, Rose and John Majeika (of West Kingston, RI), and their sons John and Corey, Joseph J. Italiano, III and wife Maria Wisniewski (of League City, TX) and their children Vanessa (Adam) and Tyler, Mary Ann and Jeff Cahoon (of South Windsor, CT) and their sons, Ryan and Kyle, Carole and Greg Quental (of Southport, CT) and their children Morgan and Drake and Nancy and Kyle Elliott (of Fairfield, CT) and their children, Grace, Kyle Jr., Chase and Sloane. She will also be dearly missed by her three great-grandchildren Bentley, Oliver and Rowan and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00am on Friday, April 1 at St. Michael’s Church, 60 Liberty Street, Pawcatuck. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce Street, Westerly is in care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Nancy’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, an organization Nancy felt very strongly about.
