John P. “Jack” Sammataro, 98, of Sisk Drive, Pawcatuck, passed away at Mystic Healthcare Nursing & Rehab on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Julia (Naccarato) Sammataro.
He was born in Pawcatuck, CT, son of the late Frank and Orsola Sammataro.
Jack served in the US Army during WW2. He worked as a manager at A&P company and was
a lifetime communicant of St. Michael Church. He was a 60 year member of the Winnapaug
Country Club where he had made several of his 9 holes-in-one during his golfing career. When
Jack wasn’t on the golf course, he was gardening. He was also a former member of the Knights
of Columbus.
He leaves behind his daughter Linda Candler Doak, son-in-law Bill Doak of Groton; and two
sisters, Camella Moore of Stonington and Rosemarie DeVivo of Simsbury, CT. Jack is also
survived by three grandchildren, Kim Candler of Westerly, Josh Candler of East Hamden, CT
and Matthew Candler of Montville, CT; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews. Jack’s infectious smile and endless supply of jokes will be dearly missed by all who
had the privilege of knowing him.
