Obituary for Dorothy M. Travers (Starr)

Dorothy M. (Starr) Travers, 94, of Pawcatuck, passed away at Groton Regency Complete Care on Saturday, April 16, 2022. She was the wife of the late Manuel J. Travers.

Born in Stonington, CT, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Gertrude Starr. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Abraham Starr and Louis Starr.

Dorothy was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church in Stonington, CT. She joined the choir at the age of 15, and was a soloist at numerous weddings and funerals, as well as performing in the church minstrels in the 1960s. In addition, she served as a Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher for many years.

Dorothy was a Girl Scout Leader, served as President of the Stonington Democratic Women’s Club and was also President of the Daughters of Isabella in Stonington.

She worked as a Secretary at Connecticut Casting in Pawcatuck, Posi Seal in North Stonington and Buck Electric in Stonington before retiring.

She is survived by two daughters, Maureen Mello and husband Tony of Pawcatuck and Theresa Hoffman and husband Skip of Westerly; three grandchildren, Tammy Tinnerello (Joey) of CT, Karen Itteilag of PA, and Stephen Roy (Samantha) of PA; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Sal, Bianca, Lydia, Elle and Weston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visiting hour will be held from 10am – 11am on Friday at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11am in the funeral home with burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Stonington.
