Obituary for Marion B. Inserra (Faklaris)
Marion B. (Faklaris) Inserra, 95, of Elm Street, Westerly, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. She was the wife of the late Russell J. Inserra.
Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Josephine Faklaris.
Marion was a communicant of St. Pius X Church, and she was also a volunteer at the local Chamber of Commerce and the St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP) and established the local SVDP Food Pantry at Immaculate Conception Church more than 20 years ago which she still managed until recently. In recognition of her volunteer work for the church and the local community, she was presented the “Lumen Gentium (light of nations) Award by the Diocese of Providence in 2018. This award formally recognizes those who “toil in the vineyard” in the service to the Lord and minister to those in greatest need in the parish or community.
She is survived by her loving family who will all miss her dearly: eleven children, Richard (Peg) Inserra, Russell (Jill) Inserra, Christopher (Felicia) Inserra, Mary Jo (Wayne) DePena, Elizabeth (Byron) Gray, Mark (Judy) Inserra, Paul (Marie) Inserra, Jeanne (Bill) Lalli, The Rev. John Inserra, Kathryn (Frank) Gilligan and Dr. Michelle Inserra and husband Kevin Brunner. Marion also leaves behind her sister Gloria Paglini; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Briana.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 1st from 1-4pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Monday, May 2nd, at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly. There is no procession to church from the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, P.O. Box 1014 Westerly, RI 02891 in Marion’s memory.
