Obituary for Elizabeth Tillinghast (Carey)
Elizabeth F. “Betty” (Carey) Tillinghast, of Wequetequock, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at the age of 83. She was born in Westerly on the daughter of the late Daniel and Jennie Carey. She was the wife of the late Delbert “Skip” Tillinghast.
Betty worked for many years as the Transportation Supervisor for the Westerly School Dept. until her retirement. She enjoyed boating with her late husband, Skip. They could always be found on a hot summer day at Sandy Point, digging for quahogs and steamers. To Betty, family was everything. She loved spending as much time with her grandchildren as possible, and she always had a houseful. She enjoyed traveling and took many ski vacations and trips to Disney World with her kids and grandkids.
She leaves behind three sons, Daniel Tillinghast of Westerly, Timothy (Bonnie) Tillinghast of Pawcatuck, and Delbert (Jennifer) Tillinghast of Ledyard; one daughter Debbie (Dino) Urso of Westerly; three siblings, John “Tippy” Carey and Claire Sexton, both of Westerly and Patricia Dessaules, of Pawcatuck; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her son Robert Tillinghast (Robin) and daughter Cheryl Allen (Steven); her sisters, Jane Carey, Kathleen Taylor, Maureen Moscaritolo and Margaret Harvey; and brother Daniel Carey.

Visiting hours are omitted. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10am on Thursday, June 9th at St. Michael Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck. Burial is private.
