Obituary for Beatrice M. Brophy (Geer)

On Friday, July 1, 2022, while surrounded by her family, Beatrice Mary (Geer) Brophy got her wings and went to walk with the angels. A resident of Chepachet, Rhode Island, she was 80 years young, and the beloved wife of the late John Brophy.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rachael Geer.

Beatrice worked as a nurse’s aide at Westerly Hospital for many years, then devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her family. Anyone who knew them, knew that she was a star in their eyes, and that’s all that ever mattered to her.

She was a devout Catholic and loved attending church Masses, events and activities. As an avid lover of nature, she relished in time outside listening to birds, watching wildlife, and tending to her flowers and plants. A woman of grace and gratitude, giving back to those less fortunate was paramount and enjoyed volunteering for the church and animal shelters.

She leaves behind her family members who made up the entirety of her world - her two daughters, Karen Dubreuil of Preston, Connecticut and Colleen Brophy of Chepachet, Rhode Island; her son in law James Dubreuil; her five grandchildren, Chelsea Dubreuil, Caitlyn Dubreuil, Courtney Dubreuil, Christian Dubreuil, and Gabriel Brophy-Curran, and of course, her best four-legged feline companion, Sebastian the cat.
Besides her immediate family, Beatrice is survived by two brothers, George Geer of Oregon and Benjamin Geer of Pawcatuck; and two sisters, Mary Latta and Gloria Atter both of Westerly. Beatrice was predeceased by her son John Kevin Brophy; her brother James Geer; and sister Hattie (Geer) Lewis.

Friends are invited to say a final goodbye to Beatrice at her Funeral Liturgy being held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 8, 2022 at St. Michael’s Church located at 60 Liberty Street, Pawcatuck, Connecticut. Burial will follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly, Rhode Island. All are welcome. A celebration of her life will be hosted by her family at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in her memory to Friends of Westerly Animal Shelter or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, Westerly is in charge of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
