Obituary for Lorraine M. Sunderland (LaPlante)
Lorraine M. Sunderland, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2022 surrounded by her family at the Westerly Hospital.
Lorraine was raised on Oak Street by her father Treffle "Pat" LaPlante and her mother Lousie M LaPlante. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Sunderland; her sons, Robert Jr. and wife Kimberly of Charlestown, Scott and wife Donna of Ashaway and Todd Sunderland of Griswold. Lorraine will be remembered lovingly by her 5 grandsons, Matthew, Robbie, Easton, Sean and Colin.
Lorraine worked at the Westerly Hospital for 21 years and was well known on the 3rd shift for her meals that fed the police, ambulance and staff. Lorraine will also be remembered by her extended family that included 100's of her boys’ friends that would stop by and hang out and eat some of their favorite foods as she loved to cook for all of them.
As someone recently said, “For a petite lady with the smallest hands they'd ever seen, she sure could handle those pots and pans.” Those hands have made 1000's of Christmas cookies for many people as that was something she loved to do.
Visiting hours will be Monday from 5-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend the Funeral Service at 12 noon on Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
