Obituary for Rhea Ann Lenihan (Ravenelle)

Rhea Ann (Ravenelle) Lenihan, beloved wife for 67 years of Thomas Lenihan, of N. Anguilla Road, Pawcatuck, passed away at the Westerly Health Center on Saturday, October 22, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pawcatuck, she was the daughter of the late Ubald and Rose Ravenelle.

A lifelong resident of the area and communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Rhea was a graduate of Stonington High School in 1953.

Rhea was married Thomas on November 5th 1955 and worked with her husband at their business, Lenihan Lumber Co. in Waterford, CT from its opening in 1988 until their retirement in 2016.

Above all, she was a homemaker devoted to her husband and family. She loved her home and her family gatherings. She hosted Thanksgiving dinners for over 20 people for many years, and she hosted open house gatherings of her large family for every holiday. She was sure to have a pool-opening party every Father’s Day, which also celebrated her husband’s birthday, and she loved to have an end-of-summer party before closing the pool. Every Sunday in between was a celebration as well. Most recently, seeing her great-grandchildren lit up her world.

She raised her five children and helped with her grandchildren after the passing of her daughter, their mother. Rhea was always available to help and support all of her family and she will be dearly missed by all.

She leaves behind her loving husband Thomas and their four children, Joseph Lenihan and wife Cyndie of Preston, CT, Michael Lenihan and wife Denise of Stonington, CT, Denise Avery and husband Stephen of Plainfield, CT, and Mark Lenihan and wife Candy, also of Stonington, CT.
