Obituary for Assunta "Suzie" DeBartolo (Giardino)

Assunta, (Giardino) DeBartolo, of Westerly, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022. She was 86.

Born in Acri, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Angelina Giardino.

Assunta was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family and gardening. One of her favorite things to do was making homemade bread to share with everyone. She was passionate about her Catholic faith, took time for prayer daily, attended Mass regularly at Immaculate Conception Church, and always encouraged others to pray and trust in Jesus. She was affectionately known as “Mama D” by most everyone that knew her. Her zest for life, love of Jesus and inspiring words of wisdom will live on in our hearts.

She will be dearly missed by her three children, Joseph DeBartolo of Westerly, Angelo DeBartolo of Cocoa, FL and Marianna Klingensmith of Viera, FL; and one grandson Robert Klingensmith whom she lovingly called “Little Bobby”. She is also survived by former husband Robert DeBartolo; sister Grazia Ferraro of Pawcatuck, CT; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly at 10a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in charge of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
