Obituary for John T. "Jack" McErlean
John T. “Jack” McErlean, of Westerly, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the age of 89. He was the husband of the late Agnes M. (Inglesby) McErlean who predeceased him in 2020.
Born in New York, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marie McErlean.
Jack grew up in Manhasset, NY and later moved to Larchmont, NY where he and Agnes raised their family. He served in the US Army. He graduated from Georgetown University and then Fordham University Law School where he earned his JD. He was the President of Freeman Securities for many years. Upon retirement, Jack and Agnes enjoyed many years in Ocean City, NJ before ultimately settling in Westerly.
He was an active communicant of St. Pius X Church where he served as a eucharistic minister. Jack was an avid NY Jets and Mets fan.
Jack is survived by his four daughters, Ann McErlean, Marie Hunter, Aggie Duhamel (Chris), all of Westerly and Catherine Francese (Carl) of New Rochelle, NY; two daughters-in-law, Kathy McErlean McQuillan and Beth McCarthy McErlean Pierce; as well as 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sons, Thomas and John; and his son-in-law Kevin Hunter.
Visiting hours will be held at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly on Thursday from 9am – 10:30am, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly.
