Obituary for Christopher Marlowe Wicklund

Christopher Marlowe Wicklund passed away peacefully at the age of 55, on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at home with his family by his side. Chris fought cancer with great strength, optimism and dignity over the last several months.

Chris met the love of his life, Patricia (Marsiglio), 35 years ago and would have celebrated 30 years of marriage in June. Chris was especially proud of his two children, Julia and Kyle. Together, they enjoyed many travels and activities, building a lifetime of cherished family memories. Chris is also survived by his mother Joan Claire Wicklund; his brother Gregory Wicklund (Cheryl Henry); and his sister Allyson Gaccione. He was predeceased by his father Harry Wicklund. Chris will truly be missed by his in-laws and his many nieces, nephews and friends.

Chris graduated Chariho High School in 1985 where he was a three-season athlete, participating in soccer, basketball and track. He then went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree at URI and Master’s degree at RIC.

Chris possessed a strong work ethic. In addition to being a respected and well-liked teacher in the Waterford School System for 26 years, he also coached middle school track in the spring. During the fall season, he was a high school soccer referee. He was passionate about the sport of soccer, whether it be in his role as coach for his children or many other children over the years, as a referee, playing on the field or following the game on TV. When he wasn’t at work, he could be found playing golf, riding ATV’s with his son and friends, kayaking, hiking and working in his yard. Chris was a lifelong fan of all the New England sports teams.

Over the last 19 summers, Chris worked at Seaside Beach Club. He cherished his SBC work family with whom he shared many stories, laughs and great times.

Chris was a deeply spiritual, devout Catholic who was a faithful communicant of St. Pius X Church. He was dedicated to his daily prayer, and he lived each day with deep faith in the Lord until his passing.

Patty, Julia and Kyle would like to express their profound gratitude to Fr. Michael Najim for his spiritual guidance and friendship during this difficult time. They would also like to thank Dr. Robert Legare and the entire oncology team for their tender and professional care.
