Obituary for John R. LaPlante
John R. LaPlante, 79, of Pawcatuck, CT passed away at his home on April 17th, 2023.
He is survived by his children, Anita Guarnieri (Joseph), Jaclyn Tripp (Gregory), and Jace LaPlante, all of Westerly; as well as his five grandchildren, Joseph, Madelynn, Alaina, Nolan, and Natalee. He will be missed by his youngest sister Carol DeVoto (Robert “Rudy”) of Flemington, NJ. He was predeceased by his parents, Treffle and Louise LaPlante, and his older sister Lorraine Sunderland (Robert). He leaves behind his “best girl” and faithful companion, Vicki DeSantis, as well as his loyal friend JoAnn Smith.
John is a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge for his service. Upon his return, he worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance as well as Pfizer, before starting his own business, Finder Communications.
John will be remembered for his love of all animals, especially his two Dachshunds, Tiny Tim and Peanut who both enjoyed sitting on his recliner watching the UCONN Huskies play. Often, he could be found standing at the bridge with a Bess Eaton coffee in hand, before jumping on his Harley headed to a local antique car show.
