Obituary for Robert W. Shulda Jr.
Robert W. Shulda, Jr., 69, beloved husband of Mary Ellen (King) Shulda, of Stillman Avenue, Pawcatuck, passed away at Pendleton Health & Rehab in Stonington on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
Born in Westerly, he was the son of the late Ruth and Robert W. Shulda, Sr.
Bob graduated Stonington High School in 1972. He worked as an outside electrician for Electric Boat in Groton for many years until his retirement. Upon retirement, Bob obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Connecticut College and worked as a substitute teacher.
He was a life member of the Westerly BPOE #678 where he twice served as the Exalted Ruler, was involved with the Elks Veterans Service Commission and was Chairman of the Veterans Committee for many years. Bob realized his dream of becoming P.D.D.G.E.R. of RI West.
He was also a member of the Westerly VFW Auxiliary, and the West Warwick/Coventry Emblem Club #454, as well as serving as past secretary of the Veterans Board of Control.
Family was extremely important to Bob and he will be deeply missed by his loving wife Mary Ellen; three stepchildren, Dawn E. Birkbeck of Hanahan, SC, Karen J. (Kevin) Simmons of Pawcatuck, and Gary S. Birkbeck of Pawcatuck; his sister Sandra (Lee) Brokaw of Hilman, TN; eleven step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; a niece/Godchild Kassandra Brokaw; and step-granddaughter/Godchild Kristie Davis. Bob also leaves three kitty furbabies, Bina, Choc and Oliver. Bob was predeceased by his stepdaughter Sheila A. Janeiro Alfonso.
