Obituary for Francesco Sposato
Francesco “Mazziote” Sposato, beloved husband for 60 years of Anna (Ferraro) Sposato, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the age of 80.
Born in Acri, Cosenza, Italy he was the son of the late Angelo and Bomina Sposato.
As a young man, Francesco served in the Italian Army. In 1973, Francesco moved his family to the United States and became a longtime resident of Westerly. He was employed as a machine operator for American Velvet and did a great deal of masonry work. He took great pride in his garden, homemade wine and soppressata. You would often find him at the Hilltop Social Club enjoying the company of his friends, but most importantly spending time with his family.
Besides his loving wife Anna, he leaves behind two daughters, Angela C. Schoner and Linda (Sposato) Mello and husband Edward Mello; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many siblings in Italy as well as nieces and nephews. Francesco was predeceased by two cherished daughters, Joann Sposato and Nancy (Sposato) Awkerman.
Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly at 10am on Monday, July 3.
