Obituary for Carl J Walbam
Carl J. Walbam, 81, beloved husband of Patricia (Minalga) Walbam, of Westerly, passed away at the Westerly Health Center on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Elizabeth N. and Carl J. A. Walbam.
Carl graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1960 and UCONN, 1964. He served in the US Navy 4 years, based in Norfolk, VA, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Carl was employed as a casualty accountant for Aetna Life and Casualty for 26 years. He was a past president and member of the Insurance Data Management Assn. After retirement Carl worked four years as bookkeeper for the Undergraduate Student Government at UCONN. He also served as president and in other leadership roles for the Bloomfield Civitan Club.
Carl was a loyal fan of UCONN basketball and the Red Sox, an accomplished carpenter, an avid reader and loved to body surf. He also enjoyed many travels with his wife. Carl’s love and support for his family was immeasurable.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Patricia and their three daughters, Julie Walbam of Hebron, CT, Jennifer Sanders of Glastonbury, CT and Katherine Churchill and husband Thomas of Andover, MA. Carl also leaves behind his sister Bonna Neuhauser of Simsbury, CT; five granddaughters, Maddy, Lily, Morgan, Alice and Margaret; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Ave., Westerly, at 10am on Wednesday, August 9th. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at River Bend Cemetery, 117 Beach St., Westerly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Carl’s memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Disabled American Veterans.
