Edward K. Mueller, loving husband of 48 years to Evelyn (Antonio) Mueller, of Watch Hill Road, Westerly, passed away at the age of 75 on Saturday, August 19, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Born in 1947 in Kitzingen, Germany, he was the son of the late Kurt and Linda Mueller. He and his family immigrated through Ellis Island in 1952 to make a home in Westerly, Rhode Island. Edward graduated from Westerly High School in 1965, and went on to graduate from Suffolk University in Boston Massachusetts in 1970 with a degree in journalism. After meeting and marrying Evelyn in Pennsylvania, they moved back to Westerly to be close to the ocean. Here they raised three beautiful daughters and created a lifetime of memories.
Edward proudly dedicated 42 years to General Dynamics/Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. Progressing through many departments and roles, he became well known and beloved throughout the company. He served as Supervisor of Materials, Configuration Management, and Supervisor of Engineering Services at time of retirement in 2018. We wish we could describe his accomplishments with the detail they deserve, however his work was all “top secret.” As far as we knew, his favorite parts of his career were his business trips to New Orleans to enjoy southern food and live jazz music. Colleagues will remember Ed as kind, genuine, intellectual, and a friend to all.
Edward was an avid reader with eclectic taste, having no fewer than four books going at a time. He was quick to lift his canoe up on the roof of the car to take his friends or daughters fishing. His favorite spots for the best catches were upper Wood River and the trout stream in Arcadia. True to his caring and peaceful character, he always let his catches go.
He will be deeply missed by his wife and three daughters, Nora DiMaggio and husband Peter, Rebecca Posner and husband Joshua, and Jane Mueller; two sisters, Jutta Chapman and Heidi Cozzolino; many nieces and nephews; and a great number of friends. He was known as “Opa” to his four grandchildren, Quintin, Wren, Charlotte and Teddy. He is predeceased by two sisters; Gisela Wimmer and Edith Sposato. We loved him so much, and we know you did too.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 24th from 4pm -7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Funeral service and burial will be respectfully private. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com.
