Obituary for Margaret T. "Marga" Higgins (Shea)
Margaret T. “Marga” Higgins, 91, of North Broad Street, Pawcatuck, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday afternoon, August 23, 2023.
Born in Westerly, she was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Marguerite Shea and the wife of the late William “Bill” Higgins.
Marga was a registered nurse in the orthopedic ward at Mass General Hospital. She was a Connecticut State Badminton Champion. She was poised in a crisis. She was a beautifully attentive listener. She welcomed our stories with empathy, curiosity, and joy. She loved with all of her heart. She never lost her wit, even in her last days.
She will be missed by her five children, Kevin P. Higgins of Manhattan Beach, CA, Mary Ellen Higgins of Melbourne Beach, FL; and Kathleen M. Higgins, Laura A. Beverly and husband Eric, and Rebekah J. West and husband Larry, all of Pawcatuck, CT. She will be missed by her eight grandchildren, Paul, Daniel, Bailey, Will, Connor, Briana, Evan, and Reagan, and her great-grandchild, Payton. She was a dear friend to many nieces and nephews. Marga also leaves behind her brother Charles W. Shea of Pawcatuck and wife Joan. She was predeceased by her brother Robert F. Shea and by her sister, Mary E. “Betty” Urso.
Marga was a lifetime communicant of St. Michael Church.
Visiting hours are omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Liturgy at 10am on Friday, September 22nd at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 60 Liberty Street, Pawcatuck, CT. A Christian burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck.
